Does anyone use a Pilates Reformer at home?

I am toying with the idea of buying one but am also aware that most exercise equipment purchased for the home ends up unused.

I LOVE Pilates, but have only been doing it about three months, so am aware this could be a phase. I do three mat work classes a week (moderate/advanced) and one reformer class on a Saturday that is very beginnery.

I am thinking I would have the machine in the spare bedroom and will set up live streaming so I could follow classes. Or I might pay for a private 1-1 lesson a week where I can then have a plan for the week to keep me motivated.

Anyone do anything similar or should I just stick with classes?

I've got one but I don't really have room for it so it's in bit and packed away.

If you stick with pilates over the long term you'll be able to put together your own routines.

I guess the problem is they're expensive and you don't know if you will still with it!

Perhaps wait to see how things pan out before you invest?

I have just finished a 1 month reformer challenge, doing 20 classes in a month. I find that I learn so much from the instructor tweaking a position here, moving me a cm in a direction etc. I am not sure that it's best done at home.

That said, I did have a private lesson at the beginning which was worth its weight in gold. It really set me up well.

Perhaps worth carrying on as you are for a bit and seeing how you go. Important to mix in some cardio too.

Thanks girls. I have a great deal at the gym with free crèche so I am doing cardio as well (spinning, swimming, kettle bells) and generally exercising 6x a week.

The reason I get silly excited about Reformer is I have tight hamstrings and hip flexors which stop me from horse riding and I really want to sort the issue out. I find the Reformer allows me to stretch in a way that may work doesn't. Only prob is the nearest studio that does it is 40 mins drive away so I can only go once a week.

I keep staring at these machines worth over a grand thinking 'would I actually use you lol or are you a midlife crisis?' Grin. If I saw a good one come up on eBay for less silly money I would probably just buy it and deal with the recriminations afterwards!!

I do and I use it all the time. I took reformer classes for 6 months before I bought it. Mine is gym quality though (I bought it second hand) I wouldn't bother with the cheapest ones.

I've been thinking about getting one as well. I started about six months ago and love it.

What brand were you thinking of getting? I've only seen the ones that look like physio ones, or the aero pilates ones which look a bit flimsy.

I've had an aeropilates machine for a couple of years and it's the only piece of home gym equipment I've not got bored with.

Look out for an aeropilates machine when QVC do them because you have a month to try them in your own home and if you don't like it you could return it, all it would cost is return carriage. Also check out their reviews. If you want to take a chance, there are loads on ebay for around £150 sold as buyer must collect.

I have a spare room where it lives on its stand in the middle of the floor and I use it just about every day, simply because I feel great afterwards somehow back in balance, no matter which exercises I do on it and whether it's a 15 minute or an hour session. I've got a round and a

It is heavy, over 30kg. I couldn't carry it upstairs on my own, but once it was up there it was really easy to unpack and assemble. I got the 3 cord with rebounder and stand, so far not needed to replace any cords or ropes. As you can see, I kinda like it and if it wears out, I'll get another one, although I appreciate it's not for everyone.

I'm thinking of getting a pilates bench but did wonder if the cheaper end (pilates performer or the power gym one in Argos) were any good

Don't do any classes so would be very beginner based (if used at all!)

thewholeofthespoon which one did you get?
