I only managed 3k Monday before my calf went really tight and painful, will try again tonight

Marks place.

I want to go running but weather is vile. Very windy and rainy here in Herts. I wish the wind would stop. Am desperate to run.

DS and I went to our little local running club tonight - we manage 8k in about 60mins. But it was 75 second repeats and other bits of interval training. I need to start getting in a few longer runs - I have my eye on a few longer races in March and April.

Weather awful here too plus I'm so exhausted atm. Have had trouble with my knee and hip so haven't run since Sunday. Will try and start again on Monday if things are better. Still on week 6 Grin

W3R3 done and though I wouldn't call it easy I felt comfortable all the way through the run, so feel ready for Week 4. Much nicer weather to run in toay too, still cold but only a light wind and sun was out!

I'm now up to where I left of with injury last time as didn't get far though W4R1 before calf went.

I managed a 4k in the pouring rain, I could even empty water out of my trainers at the end Grin I'm finding it quite hard still, I thought that as I'd managed 5k I'd be ok.

I don't think it instantly gets easy DhamalovesDraco! Wet trainers are hideous so well done on your 4k :)

Right I'll join as a newbie, I think I need a butt kicking. Downloaded the app two weeks ago but still procrastinating. The weather's just so awful and the kids keep passing their colds to me.

I am going to get started tonight however.

Just do it morrigu! You will feel better once you have. Or so I keep telling myself.

I downloaded the app on Thursday and did my first 'run' then. I had to get up early and do the second one this morning before it got properly light but it wasn't raining!
My trainers were two years old so I have been to buy new ones today so I'm committed now. Hoping they will help my left knee not feel quite so sore :-)
I used to run every day (nearly) before I had the kids but that was 12 years and five kids ago! But it felt do good to be running again.
I'm looking forward to the early mornings getting lighter hopefully I will look a bit more professional by the time people can see me.

I did it Halle!!

Wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. I can see me sticking to it rather than in the past when I tried just running constantly from the first time, near killed myself and given up sharpish.

My left knee was twinging a bit too MissSmiley but I do have clicky joints so I'll have to hunt out my supports.

That's my thoughts. Want to get started now so by the time the days are longer I won't look so bad.

But I wanted it to be Cinnamon I was so hopeful Wink

I'm surprised I haven't got trench foot from all the running/dog walking in the rain and puddles. I also wimped out of Parkrun today, just feel really weird turning up on my own. Must go next weekend instead.

Welcome Morrigu and MissSmiley! Well done getting out, the first run is the hardest. We had a lady who on week 3 of c25k do our parkrun today. She was so pleased with herself and got a massive round of applause as she crossed the line :)

It really took me 3-4 months post c25k to love running DharmalovesDraco sorry I had the post run glow but the actual running bit took longer. I have done a half marathon and some runs are still a struggle!

Actually Cinnamon that makes me feel so much better, I think I really thought once I had achieved 5k that it would all fall into place and was a bit down hearted that it didn't - thanks for making me realise that it's actually normal :)

Repeated w4r3 tonight as I missed a run earlier this week as I was throwing up at the time! So its w5r1 on Monday. I'm a bit apprehensive though, hope I can survive a 20 minute run at the end of next week... It was fab to run again tonight, just to be outside with fresh air and the moon..and a lot of rain and wind, it blew me along nicely for a few minutes!

Monkeys you will be surprised at how much you can manage! It's all mind over body, keep telling yourself you can do it!

Didn't manage parkrun or any running for that matter this weekend. Still feeling crappy but am really hoping I can get my arse out of bed on Monday morning to run. My hip has been very sore since my last run so I'm a bit hesitant Sad

Well done to the new runners! Best thing I've done in a long time and I wish you all the best, hope you'll love it too Grin

Hi all, I have recently started couch to 5km, just completed week 3.

It's a bit tricky to time the runs as I'm in Australia and its 40 degrees today - I have to get up very early to do it before the heat becomes unbearable and in fact dangerous.

My question is - I'm feeling pretty good but have lost 2.2 kg and am a little disappointed as was hoping to lose 1kg per week.

I'm being pretty stringent with what I eat as well - salad for lunch every day, no potatoes with dinner etc. I have to lose 20kg to have a healthy BMI, so a long way to go!

Wondering what would be a reasonable expectation for weight loss and if I'm being silly to feel disheartened.

Thanks.

I lost 35kg 18months ago doing the c25k and calorie counting, it took me 9 months so average of a kg a week but I had been eating way too much cutsnake. Make sure you're drinking plenty as I believe that really does help with weight loss. I used my fitness pal, mostly app but website too, it's good for support but also helps to be realistic about what you're eating and how much you need to cut down for a kg a week loss.

Thanks for the welcomes. Slightly achy muscles this morning but I'm a weirdo because I've always loved that feeling the next day as it makes me feel like I've done something.

Is anyone using the zen lab app? Was having a look through it last night and can only see the slider going to week 5 day three. Does the rest open up once you've done up to there?

cutsnake have you been measuring the circumference of waist, thighs etc too? You might see a difference there rather than just going on weight. Obviously I'm not a runner myself but dad ran marathons and always said running was one of the hardest way to measure if you're losing weight. Muscle is denser than fat and weighs more so although it might appear you aren't losing weight, you are gaining muscle.

Very excited to find there's a parkrunners event in our town every week as it's going to give me something to aim for once I get up to the 5K

Dharmalovesdraco · 09/02/2014 10:27

I used Zen Labs and it had the whole thing? It might be worth downloading it again?

I've put weight on running cutsnake but I've toned up and have a shrinking muffin top, that said I don't really need to lose weight, (can't believe I've typed that have been on an eternal diet for the last 20 years) I'm running for fitness and tone.

I've just got back managed 5k but was slow at 36 minutes, still quite chuffed though as I was running into a headwind no matter which direction I was going!

Just got in from fell training 7k in about 1 hour. It's slower going than road running due to the climbs and the mud. Oh so much mud today. My DS's favourite bits are the really muddy downhills!
What have the rest of you been doing?

I've done 10 miles today pennygallops mostly in the forest first 6 with dogs and last 4 on my own, took 1hr39 :)

Thanks cinnamon - wow 35kg that is a real feat, congratulations.

Thanks also morrigu - good tip. I'm choosing to believe that my jeans feel a little looser ...

Starting week 4, it jumps up from 3 to 5 minute intervals, which seems a bit daunting! Anyway, I'll stumble gasping and wheezing onwards.

Got up at 5 am this morning and ran before work. I work FT and have 2 kids - like so many other women finding time for exercise is a constant struggle. Feeling a bit smug!
