Cold after exercise (like really properly cold, with blue fingers and everything)

It's not normal is it?!

Ds1 and I have just started C25k. I've been fine (we did W2R1 today) whilst out, feeling fit and enjoying it, but then an hour or so after getting back and showering etc I get really really cold. My fngernails are blue. I'm wearing 2 jumpers and the heating's on.

Why am I like this and is there anything I can do about it?! Don't want to give up the running but this bit makes it much less enjoyable!

For info - am overweight. Not unfit but carrying excess baggage (13 stone & 5' 8", size 14), not sure if that has an effect?

Any ideas please?! Or anyone else like me? Has it improved at all?

Ooh, I get this too! Finish running, get into the house and the heating feels sweltering but thirty minutes later I'm freezing. My thyroid is underactive at the mo so I tend to feel the cold anyway. Only thing I've found helpful is to change out of running clothing, get moving again when the cold hits (do a few squats or push-ups), have a warm bath or just give up and go to bed with a hot water bottle.

Also waiting to see if anyone can suggest an idea!

This also happens to me; the delayed chill. At the time I'm fine, afterwards when I'm pottering around I'll be fine for an hour or so, and then suddenly I realise I'm chilled to the core Confused - properly miserable and shivery.

That's WITH dry, warm clothes, fire on, hot drink - the environment is warm enough. I'm not overweight, though I have a bit more wobble than I'd like, am fairly fit, erm... all my own teeth... can't think of anything else that might be relevant.

That sounds coherent, CadiM - clearly we keep on cooling down after we think we're done. I suppose the answer might be to do all the normal things to raise your core temperature, but do them earlier, while you're still already 'warm'?

Just out of interest do you eat before you exercise? Also afterwards do you drink an isotonic drink and or eat within an hour of finishing.

I'm just asking because I always cool down quickly after running but if I make sure I eat something even if it's only a small amount, I've found I can normally avoid getting too cold.

Hope this helps.
