Exercise

BodyCombat or Zumba?

I've decided to do an exercise class once a week. I have one hour where dd1 is at an activity in a leisure centre and there are 2 classes at that time, BodyCombat or Zumba. They also have BodyBalance at that time but it's fully booked every week by the regulars.

Which one would be better for me? I am overweight (I've lost 1.5st so far but still have at least another 2 to go) and it's been a long time since I last did an exercise class of any sort. I tried the 30 day shred a few months ago and buggered my back on about day 3, so that's put me off doing much since then.

If think Zumba might be more fun & easier to do at your own pace.

Why not try both and see which suits you? I think it's more likely that Zumba would suit you if you haven't done much exercise recently - body combat tends to have instructors who really push you whereas Zumba is more relaxed.

I am a BC kinda person. Found zumba torturous in truth due to it being too directionless and blah for my liking but I am one of those front runner types in spin classes. I like reps, weights, interval training and want to be pushed beyond my comfort zone. Does this sound like you? If high impact is what I was desiring then BC is the one. You profile as someone that would be much more comfortable in a zumba class.

I loved body combat - zumba was fun but I found I got a much better all round work out with body combat.

Thanks for replying.

I got really indignant at you saying I profile as being more comfortable in Zumba, then I caught myself and realised that actually I am the complete opposite of how you describe yourself so you're probably right nessus. Just going to a class is pushing myself out of my comfort zone, so I don't need to be pushed any more than that right now.

I think the idea of trying both and then deciding which suits sounds the best idea. I'll try Zumba this week and maybe BC next week depending how I get on with the Zumba.

I am not like nessus but love BC its my favourite class ever and am thinking of joining a gym so I can do it again.

I do run, pilates and my friend's conditioning class but have always loved that type of class.

Totally depends on what you like to do. Zumba is more dancy and Body Combat is a bit more high impact with kicking and punching. Personally I hate zumba but love combat but it's just a matter of personal taste. Give them both a try and then go from there :)

I love both but for fat burning it's body combat all the way! Grin

AntiJamDid glad the words didn't fail me! But for my Americanism and public profiling I deserve to be banished to primetime classes for a month!

Don't forget to report back after your session Smile

I have too much work to do to go today Sad Instead of going to zumba while dd1 is busy, I'm taking my laptop and writing reports Sad

I'm definitely going next week, and will report back then.

I LOVE combat and also pump and attack. Zumba is a more fun class, but is great for getting into classes generally. Do try both, don't be put off by the kicks etc in combat, it's really easy to build up gradually, and once you've done a couple of classes it's addictive!

I've tried both now, zumba last week and body combat tonight. I'm going to go with the body combat.

I'm equally lost in both of them but I can feel more muscles having been worked this week than I did last week which should be a good thing I think.
