I started by upping my weights on the squat track - just by 1kg each side at a time. Why are you embarassed?

I now use 10kg per side on squats and am up to 5kg per side for chest and when they use the bar for triceps. I do one class a week and have been going for a few years

Do you mean you've upped them and its a lot harder again?
You need to stick with it and get used to the new weights. Think how hard your first few classes were and how much they hurt.

I assume you havent just doubled everything?

use the smaller weights to up it gradually rather than doubling it. I initially tried to go from 4kgs chest to 10 and it was too much, so went back a bit to to 8 (two small plates). And I just take a breather and miss a rep or two if I have to.

Make sure you have the technique right too. What are you struggling with specifically?

If you can speak to the instructor it would be good to, it might jsut be technique that needs tweaking.
