A lot of HM training plans are 12 weeks so definitely possible. I am doing one next week and it says you should be able to comfortably run 10 miles 3 weeks beforehand. I can run 10 miles but depends on how you define comfortable!

Hi,

I'm trying to do a half marathon in 5 weeks (not really advisable) but I think 10 weeks is fine. There are lots of eight week plans out there so ten weeks is planty of time I think although you are supposed to have spent about 4 months running 5k three or four times a week to have a good base to start from.

I too have been out with injuries (hence the 5 weeks to train). I think to avoid injury you should aim to get round but not worry too much about speed. Increase long runs by a mile a week and taper two weeks before.

Re layers- I think some people take a bin bag to wear before the race or old clothes that can be discarded at the start. You'll need to look up particulars of your race to see if there is storage available.

Good luck!

I've been a daft bugger and have gone and committed (injury-free knee and calf depending) to a half marathon on November 10th.

However, I've only been trundling round 5Ks recently, and have only just recovered from a calf strain (twice in 3 weeks, so an enforced month of no running). I've done longish runs in the dim and distant past, but nothing like this in the last couple of decades!

I've found several 10 week 5k to half-mara plans, so it's doable, but I just wanted to see if anyone has done that sort of jump in distance before?

Also - what's the drill regarding shedding clothes and stuff on a cold race day? Do I take layers and a running backpack to stuff them in? Or label them and deposit on stations? Not good on the logistics of these things as I've never done a 'proper' race before.

Thanks!
