Hi. Thanks for a new thread. I'm on day 4 tomorrow! It's quite exciting. I've had bouts of running and various other fitness things in the past, but this time am just keen to be able to run a regular (3-4 times a week) 5K. Injury prone, toddler and a baby, DH who works crazy hours, so hard to fit in. But I already feel so much better after my first 3 days of it. Better to spend 30 mins running (and walking!) than sitting at home.

hi! I just started this this week. week 1, run 3 tomorrow. So far no major problems except my feet are aching after a few min, possible new trainers and/or orthotics problems.

Well I have just done my first 30 minute run for week 9. I seem to have inadvertently done the Couch to 4K by accident as todays run was 4.01km when I mapped it grin Not sure where the fifth kilometre is supposed to fit!

Hey ho, something to work on.

Welcome to the new starters - don't panic and remember that everyone has a fit when they are expected to run for three whole minutes all at once in week 3

I did my first one today after having to stop last month as I really hurt my knee. All fine now and I've got some super doopah new trainers too, which made a massive difference. Doing it with a friend too, so hopefully we will make it!!

hi, started c25k 4 weeks ago. wk 1 and wk 2 ran twice each. wk 3 ran 3 times. wk4 couldn't complete first attempt, have run twice more ok and will run once more. wk 5 has 3 runs which look very hard. should I run 5a few times till I manage then 5b till I manage then 5c till I manage(IF EVER) or should I run 5a,5b,5c as much as I can then repeat till I manage?

muddy - just do what you feel comfortable with. We are all different and there's no point pushing yourself beyond anything that's working for you.

Here is my small triumph and encouragement to others. Started c25k in Jan and walked/waddled gasped for first 12 weeks gradually improving, getting encouragement from family, friends and random walkers/joggers. Last week did whole run without thinking, self chastisement.. Just arrived home!!!! Other night committed to just going for it and did it in 28.5 mins - longer strides, bit more speed - expected to have to stop to recover part way but just kept going.. Feel like a runner almost albeit still 2 stone heavier than I should be!!! But c25k works and I am not going back to being a late forties couch potato ever!!!

Hi - just started this week too. Got up at 5.30 am and in the pouring rain did the first run on Tuesday. Despite the weather, and the stupid-o'clock time I felt ridiculously pleased with myself. Did no. 3 this morning with the bright sun coming up smile

Sunrise runs sound super babysocks. I'm a fan of sunrise/sunset bike rides, usually spring and autumn so don't have to get up so early smile

I'm just about to run week 2 day 2. Actually looking forward to it as its a beautiful sunny morning. I'm just concerned I'll never run for longer than 90 seconds as at the end of each run I'm absolutely knackered!

Wow lots of new people! Welcome to you all. grin

I went to bed in right old grump last, mainly due my lack of running and painful knee. I spent a good hour on the Internet researching runner's knee, with an ice pack on my injury. Going to try some quad and hamstring strengthening exercises. And I've woken up this morning with no pain, not even walking down the stairs. Yeah! Still resting it for another week though.

I fancied training up to a half-marathon, but I've been put off by my knee this week. I'll work way up to 10k again. I like 10k.

Right, time to get the bikes out and get to the parkrun grin.

Happy (park)running everyone, I'll be cheering you all on.

its great to hear all the success stories. I think I am the slowest runner ever. I could probably walk faster than when on my 60sec runs. I feel very awkward lumbering along so I've found a quiet path to avoid people seeinggrin grin

Can I ask ask couple of questions - I've looked at the NHS website, and the only info I can find is to download the podcasts, so:
* how do you find out the distances? Surely my run for 30 mins is going to be a very different length to someone elses?
* how many runs/week are involved?
*DH works away quite a bit. Would I be able to jog on the spot after the kids are in bed some days when I just can't get out?
*how do I guess where to start trying to go first time out? I can see me either running past the same 100 houses (we live on a crescent, so I can go round in circles), or in the middle of nowhere!

Any advice from experienced C25K?

The app I have (Get Running) tells you times are you are running. So when you start the app you will be told to start your warm-up/brisk walk, and 4 minutes in she tells you that there is a minute left. Then you're told when to start running and during the run you are given notice as to how long you have left to run. Half way through the whole run you're are told that it's the halfway point, so if you need to turn round/head back that's when you turn back.

Not sure about jogging on the spot!

nearly I've also found a quiet path in the park to run on, it's hidden by some bushes which suits me perfectly at the moment. I don't want people to hear my sigh of relief when I get to the walking part. grin

Yes, but I don't have a fancy phone to get an app on! I need to do it the low tech way!!!!

If jogging on the spot isn't likely to be OK, how do I find time without kids - they are either with me, or I'm at work, hence the waistline issue!

It's 3 times a week and with warm up and cool down the maximum time is 40 minutes. Jogging on the spot is not the same but if it's all you can do due to time constraints it's better than nothing!

EnglishT I am swooning over your marathon.atbe when my little one gets to school I'd be able to get in the training but until then the most I can hope for is a half. The children have had a tummy bug last few days. Managed to get out this am, 8k as had time constraints. Legs felt a bit heavy as I'm wrecked with the midnight boaks and bed changes.

Part of the reason I did it this year is we're now TTC! And thought if I waited any longer I'd never do it! I'm in the ballot for next year but fingers crossed I'll get a place and have to defer it! smile

nextphase, I just run round the streets - I find looking at the houses and gardens distracts me a bit and if I'm feeling out of breath I can aim to run to the next lampost which keeps me going longer.
I have friends who do the app with kids in tow - they walk to the park (5 min warm up), kids play with a ball/in playground while mum runs around, or kids play on their bikes. Then they walk home for a cool down.
