Back pain and exercise recommendations

I recently sprained my ankle and then pulled a muscle in my back. I suspect I need to do some exercises to strengthen my core to support my back.

I usually run but can't do that at the moment. Can anyone think of anything I can do that will have me a cardio burst as well as do my back some good?

I am a lone parent so opportunity to exercise is limited so need to make the most of the time I do get.

Any ideas?

Buy the Mckenzie book treat your own back amazon have it. Do the exercises if you think your core needs strengthened sort it out. I didn't and gave myself a prolapse disc. This book will save your back and your bank balance if anything did go wrong and you needed constant Physio like me. This book has been reccommended by my physios and the reviews are amazing!

You are Your Own Gym book and app.

Lots of strength work, that all works your core too, and requires no equipment. (Though you may want to invest in a pull up bar)

Running is great, but you need to do strength work and stretching too to keep your body balanced.

I bought a DVD called 'Blast Off Belly Fat' - part of the 10 Minute Solutions range. It works your ab muscles and has sorted my back right out. I also find that regular steady-to-brisk walking keeps everything moving and helps to stop my back seizing up.

Thanks for your suggestions. I've bought a stability ball and the book and might order the DVD if I need to. Thanks again.

Hiya how have you found the book?

You sound just like me! I sprained my ankle two months ago and had torn ligaments and it's still bad now, I couldn't walk for around 5 weeks! An I have a very weak back and core.

I am considering yoga at the Moment bug I spotted your tread and would be interested to know how you get on with the book. Grin
