Good for you!

I fell off the gym wagon six months ago, and am awaiting the opening of my new gym (3 minutes walk from my house) on 7 March. I can't wait to get started!

I have about 10 pounds to shift - I maintained a 2 1/2 stone weightloss for nearly three years, and then got out of the gym and put some back on. Curse this slowing metabolism!

I need to remember that I won't be able to train as hard as I did before I stopped, and am fully aware this is going to be tough. I can't wait for my first spinning class though!

travellingwilbury Mon 25-Feb-13 20:49:48

thank you grin

I know its going to take a while but I really need to sort it out .

HeySoulSister Mon 25-Feb-13 20:52:15

I'm considering it.

Need to lose 5 stone. Have lost 2.5 by low carbing/running/shred

I'm scared tho! And which machines/equipment are any good?

travellingwilbury Mon 25-Feb-13 20:53:12

spinning class shock

I think I am a stone or two away from that just yet .
one day ......

travellingwilbury Mon 25-Feb-13 20:58:14

come on soul , come and join me grin

the people at mine today were so nice , I am actually quite looking forward to tomorrow , weirdo I know .

I love spinning! The great thing is you set the resistance on your bike so you're doing it at an appropriate level for you. Nobody else knows what your dial is on! Circuit classes are also awesome as by the time you hate an exercise they move you onto a new one.

HeySoul - all of them are good, find the ones you like and make sure you are shown how to use them safely. I'm not a fan of weights machines, I prefer free weights. Also don't fall into the worry of weights bulking you up. Women aren't good at bulking up, heavy weights are a good thing (it's all relative, I mean heavy for you to lift rather than a certain weight).

Dying to get back there (and will die when I do)

I joined at the beginning of Jan and have a couple of stone to shift

I do classes. 2 x spin, 2 x zumba. Spin is CRAZY, The first time, my legs could hardly walk down the stairs after, and the days after that wow, sitting on the toilet was agony grin

tis great fun though and I really it.

Zumba is abit like follow my leader, 1st class you think they are just suddenly doing random moves, but after a few weeks you realise there is some sort of routine and you learn whats what.

I joined a gym about 5 weeks ago, long story but basically I run but have lapsed as the weather has been so terrible. Aim is to lose a few pounds but mostly to get fit.

The first time I did spinning I thought I was going to die but its surprising how quickly you get used to it. You can go at your own speed and pace so you really get want you want out of that class.

Zumba is fun to do, not exactly fat burning really but the time always goes really quick. Kettlebells Ive found the hardest and bodypump I like even if my arms hurt afterwards.

travellingwilbury Tue 26-Feb-13 11:34:16

I have been again grin

they gave me my programme and I have managed it without dying or crying so that's good .

I am next due to go in Thursday and if I write it down then I have to go don't I ?
I am not planning on doing any classes , the times don't work for , so I am hoping that the machines and some free weights will be enough to make me a skinny minny grin

I am talking to myself but I have been again today and I enjoyed it .

Going again tomorrow hopefully , I had better lost weight on Monday ;)

Hi- I am rejoining the gym on Saturday if that is any help!!!

travellingwilbury Thu 28-Feb-13 19:48:15

Yes it is smile

I just need hints and tips and motivation , do you have any ?

Were you a gym bunny before ?

CrystalTits Thu 28-Feb-13 19:55:17

I've not exactly 'just' joined, but haven't been for much more than a swim over the last 3 months. Need some motivation to form a habit, and also to do Couch to 5k from home when I can't get to the gym. May I join your happy skinny band?!

travellingwilbury Thu 28-Feb-13 20:08:14

Please do smile

I have big fat weight to lose and I really want to get fit . I stopped smoking in Oct so if I can do that I can do anything can't I ?

travellingwilbury Mon 04-Mar-13 12:22:08

I went again on Saturday and I have been this morning as well . One of the trainers made me do a plank for 30 seconds , madness they are .going again tomorrow and still enjoying it , which is a bit odd for me , fingers crossed it lasts ,

I really want to be able to wear nice clothes in the summer .

I joined at the end of Jan. Have quite a good deal because I can take the kids swimming for free and they have a couple of (free) classes for them as well.

I had a 1-1 to set up a program but am not managing to go often enough atm. I usually manage Weds afternoon while Dd2 is at nursery. Should also go on a Friday and struggling atm to fit a 3rd session in but they've started a 45 min kids class on Sundays so am planning on dropping the kids at that, then Dh & I going to the gym (might stagger it so one of us drops them into the class and the other picks up to make sure I can get the whole program in).

travellingwilbury Mon 04-Mar-13 12:33:55

They do five 1to1 sessions at mine , to set up a programme and checking how you are doing and if it needs tweaking .it is helping me having a tick list of things to work through .

Have you been a gym bunny in the past ?

elfycat Mon 04-Mar-13 12:39:46

I joined the gym 3 weeks ago and have had a chesty cough ever since. I can't go at the moment as I just cough until I retch walking around.

I joined last year and then promptly went down with Slapped Cheek disease (thank you nursery via DD1) by the time I recovered from that I'd lost the will.

I hope to be able to go later this week. The kids are booked into the creche on Thursday. I am taking swimming lessons (now there's a motivator for weight loss) on Mondays but again can't go tonight with this cough.

So I will join you later this week, but might need a kick*. I have about 3 stone to lose as well, but will be happy with the loss of one stone by this summer.

*unless this cough persists. I've had it 4 weeks it must be time for it to go now. The viral symptoms have gone over the weekend.

CunfuddledAlways Mon 04-Mar-13 12:42:54

considering it greatly as their is a 24hour gym right near where i work just need the motivation!! its only £11 a month so its not the money holding me back.

I want to loose around a stone and tone up ready for summer =]

Ha ha, no! I went for a few months when Dd2 was about 1 to try and lose some baby weight but gave it up as I couldn't justify paying the membership. Dh has changed jobs since then so a bit more money and he now works next door to a gym (we get a small discount). He goes in his lunchbreaks to swim. It has a sauna/steamroom/whirlpool spa so it's quite nice to relax in too.

I lost a bit over a stone with Weightwatchers last year but have put a bit of it back on. Tempted to rejoin but I feel I'm paying £10 a month for them to tell me not to snack on crap...although I stick to it better when I have to record it. I lack willpower!

travellingwilbury Mon 04-Mar-13 12:49:36

Have you tried my fitness pal crafty ? It's really good for recording and keeping you on track .

I haven't yet this time but I think I will download the app .

Elfy , that sounds rubbish. I hope you feel better soon and can get to the gym soon . It's horrible if you are all motivated and can't do it .

Confuddled that sounds like a bargain , good luck .

MOSagain Wed 06-Mar-13 12:40:47

How is it going travelling?
I've also got a lot of weight to lose. Am probably around 3 stone overweight (if you go by the ridiculous height weight charts which I don't think are entirely accurate) but would be happy with 2 stone.

Last year I was determined to get fit and healthy and signed up to do a charity trek. Fabulous intentions, raising money for SANDS and NDCS, trekking the Inca Trail.

Sounded a fabulous idea at the time, however, I've just realised its only 10 weeks away! Was away from gym for 3 weeks until last week and at the moment only really able to go twice a week. I don't know how I'm going to do it!

travellingwilbury Thu 07-Mar-13 06:51:23

Thanks MOS , I am still doing ok , hoping to get there before school pick up today . It is tricky to fit it in sometimes and I really don't want to go in the evening

That trek sounds amazing , where abouts are you going ? Brilliant cause as well .
