I've just signed myself up for it, and am now slightly bricking myself at the enormity of the challenge. The thought of being able to run that far! But I'm determined to do it. I'm running only up to about 7k on a good day at the minute so I have quite a lot to build up to! Anyone want to join me on this thread and give me tips on best ways to train? And anyone else planning to do it, please join this thread so we can support each other.

You have ages to get ready for it, just take it slow and steady.
I did my first, and only half-marathon last March round the Silverstone F1 track and actually enjoyed most of it, especially the sense of achievement at the end :)

I have a book called Running for Women by Kara Goucher (American Olympic runner) that I found really good with a sensible, doable, 3 times a week training plan that I used to get ready. She has plans from complete beginner up to marathon so you can use it to build up. I'm about to use the marathon planner as doing a half hasn't knocked much sense into me :)
I liked it much more than Paula Radcliffe's book which just seems to be a lot of Nike advertising Hmm

Good luck.

You have ages! I signed up to do my first half marathon in October 2012 but missed it due to illnessSad. I had done a couple of 10ks previously. I've signed up for the White Horse half marathon this April and am getting back on track with yhe training now, after a bit of a lapse in the last few months. Did 7.5k today and it nearly killed me! I've downloaded the Adidas Mi Coach app and it's made me a personalised training plan. With Jonny Wilkinson's voice Grin.
