girls football - what does a newbie need to know?

So, the day has arrived - my daughter tells me she wants to give up dance and join a girls football team instead. Half pleased (dancing is so expensive), part excited as she is so enthusiastic about it but bit anxious - I KNOW NOTHING about it, don't even get the offside rule. Can Mums with 10 year old girls tell me how much is kit roughly?, what is the time commitment, etc will I ever get a lie on a saturday morning again?!
