Zombie, run! - anyone tried this app?

From what I can piece together it's an immersive app for the iPhone which enables you to follow a storyline whilst running.
You take the role of Runner 5 who is going out to collect essential items to take back to a small band of survivors, occasionally being chased by zombies!
It sounds BRILLIANT but it's £5 on the app store and I'm too tight to just go ahead and buy it without other recommendations first!
Has anyone tried it? Or even heard of it?

Thanks kitey, it sounds very motivating - and well done for the great progress! I think I last ran 6k about a decade ago....

sorry for not replying. I am almost done with week 5 now and still going. the app doesnt monitor your speed but tells you when to walk, run, slow jog, do heel lifts etc. I am now able to run for 15 mins without stopping. I cover about 6.5k in a 50min session of walk run drills and stretches. My aim is to be able to run for 5k without stopping. Then I will work on increasing my speed.

OK, I'm sure this isn't the point, but could you use it on a treadmill?!! It's now a bit hot where I live for too much outdoor running (yep, quality problem, I know)
How does the app monitor and then tell you to modify your speed? Am I missing the point? Please enlighten me!

I just completed the last run of week 3! I managed the full runs (6mins, 8 mins and 8 mins) plus the interval run/walks. I think a non-stop 5k is definitely achievable by week 8!

And I've just realised two years later I never did report back - was flattyre blush.

I maybe used it twice. It was quite good fun but better for new runners who want to walk/run. Could be useful for HIIT if you fancy running then speeding up to a sprint when the zombies chase!

I love this app. I am doing the 5k version and just midway through week 2. I use it with rockmyrun for music cos I still havent got round to downloading music on my phone.

I had DH with me (which was very kind of him as he's a much better runner than I am and has to slow his pace right down, but he definitely shambled at one point and put a hand on my shoulder).

Where are you on it?

I love it! It livens up a run on your own. Only problem is, I often run in woods so occasionally I manage to freak myself out! blush

I bought it this morning and I love it a bit already. I get a little bit anxious about running and using the app made that anxiety go. These people need me grin

Have you got started with your C25K? How's the running going?

MrsLovely Mon 27-Jan-14 21:16:14

I have just realised-only two years later- I have replies to my OP!

I never did buy the app but have recently started C25k.....am now off to see how much it is currently, am very excited that I might finally get to use it!

I need some new running mojo....maybe the undead are the answer...

Go for it!! You'll be running 5k in 8 weeks without a problem

Kewcumber Wed 22-Jan-14 13:53:25

oooh i'm so tempted...

delbee Wed 22-Jan-14 13:25:54

Kewcumber I'm on week three and the running has increased. Was totally knackered but so enjoyed it. I'm finding it better than the normal c25k. X

I think I'm going to try this - any advice? I've done couch to 5k once but I'm very slow and I'm hoping this will be fun and get me running a bit faster.

I was chased by zombies on my run this morning. Was fun! I've only done it a couple of times so far and it's taken me a while to work out how it works e.g. that radio transmissions come on automatically once your mission has ended. Initially I was doing it without a playlist, which was confusing as it was difficult to tell if the app had stopped working or nothing was happening for a while. I also don't really get the stats graphs that come up once you've downloaded your missions. Despite all that, running from the undead is very motivating.

I've signed up too, I really want to like running so I shall give this a whirl. It was £2.19 on the google play store if anyone is interested.
Sounds like a good exercise idea!

I'm on week 1 day 3. I am loving it, well worth the money. I'm not sure if it has gone down in price in UK since op posted but I paid €1.89. Only other thing I've got to add is my thighs are killing and sitting down on the toilet is near impossiblegrin

Trying2bMindful Sun 27-Oct-13 23:01:35

thanks H. will tell DH - more his thing than mine, but I am v curious smile

Habbibu Sat 26-Oct-13 21:18:57

I have the 5k one, which I like a lot. I think the proper app is much better storywise.

Trying2bMindful Sat 26-Oct-13 21:15:21

what was the verdict.... any good? (she says with halloween on the way - what a great way to start running!!)

I am bumping this as I want to see if people have any more reviews of it! Is it good for a beginner runner?!

Orangesarenottheonlyfruit Mon 04-Feb-13 19:42:30

On warning though, don't use it on a dark run unless you want to spend half your time scaring yourself witless and shrieking at everyone coming out of the shadows... Not that I've ever done that of course...

Orangesarenottheonlyfruit Mon 04-Feb-13 19:41:30

I use it and it's ace!!! It has unknowingly speeded my times up I guess through the sprint intervals and it is really good fun. It also syncs with the runkeeper app, which I use.
Is great fun and really worth a try, the story is lots of fun!

I'm slightly tempted by this. I reckon it would be good training for this.
