Baby born last Nov, I need a challenge to aim for to get fit. I did Mountain Mayhem after last baby but I've had enough of cycling! This time I'm thinking of doing the Hellrunner up north. Any takers?? Any advice?

My DSis did the Hell runner last year. She said it was everything you hear about it and more. She was a bit of a mess at the end of it, cut, bruised and in masses of pain. She was at the peak of fitness and said if you weren't it would be a pointless exercise.
HOWEVER Grin she was also so so glad she did it and was amazingly proud of herself (as we're we) for completing it.

Is it in May? You would need to put in some serious training between now and then to be fit enough to cope with the obstacles but it would be an amazing feeling to complete it.
She did it with two friends and I would say that it's essential to have that support. Someone going through the same that you can urge each other on.
Good Luck if you do do it!
You are a better woman than I Grin

Wow... that looks amazing (googled it and saw the video from last year).

Wish I was still young enough to do that Sad

I thought the northern one was November

Is it November? I might be mixing it up with the Bupa Manchester Run.

Yeah it's November. Plenty of time to train.. Didn't occur to me that it would also be freezing! Just to make things even more extreme Shock

There's a tweet on the side panel of the website from a bunch of girls who are over 50 NightSky!

Looks fab. I´ve been toying with the idea of a mud run for a while. Not interested in normal running races, but these look like a whole different ball game! Our local one is quite long and in Feb (next week in fact) so it´ll be too freezing to seriously consider (not in UK). Maybe I need to find a destination one, somewhere warmer!

Go for it!

I've done the one down south and I LOVED it. Also down the GRIM and part of the G3 series which was similar. Much prefer it to straightforward races. Pondering the Grizzly or something next....

I'm torn between that looks awesome and that looks very very scary!

Where would one start in training for that?

Get the distance sorted, a little speed work, lots of hills/steps and a sprinkling of strength work alongside. Off road, definitely - surprising how much harder people sometimes find trails/grass etc. Plus a good but of running in foul weather just to make sure you din't mind mud and wet!

I hav always found the atmosphere at this kind of race to be brilliant, really inclusive, lots of chat - people really going for it but not taking themselves too seriously.

ooooh I went running today on a field path so I can almost do that!

I'm not sure my poor body could survive - pre children I was quite fit (did a 10K run on a very hilly course) but knackered my knee skiing which took me a year to recover from and then got pregnant.

In reality its only in the last 2 months that I have seriously tried to get fit again and I like having a goal to aim towards but perhaps hellrunner is a step too far this year!

I am still veering towards "it looks immense!"
