i started running in march and have built it up to about 6 miles per run, although through the summer holidays i have hardly ran at all

so... starting tonight im getting back into it and im going to start applying for marathons and various runs now to build up my runner profile.

i have had a silly dream that i want to do one of these extreme endurance runs one day running the length of england or something stupid like that (maybe not QUITE that far).

i picked up a magazine in WHsmith and an article about a group of men who did some endurance run caught my eye. they ran 90 miles in 3 days i think?

i thought to myself 'i CAN do something like that one day' so im going to. thats my new training challenge now

im going to get maybe a year or so of various
fun runs and increasingly difficult marathons under my belt with the aim to do something crazy at the end.

im also going to start a running blog too which ive started another thread about as i have no idea where to start with that!

wish me luck....

Well done. I started running about 9 years ago and thought 10k was a really long way. Since then I've managed a handful of marathons, two ultras (40 miles and 50 miles) and an Ironman Triathlon.

If there's one bit of advice I can give you it's not to do too much too soon. It takes time for your body to adapt to the stresses of running so if you try to run too far you'll get injured. That means you should build up to your ultra adventure. Do some 10k races then move onto half marathons next year and marathons the year after before tackling anything longer.

I have an ambition to run the length of the Thames Path although my wife is expecting our first baby so that might be put off for a few years :)

Hey! Good Luck!

Runners world have a great website that has links to lots of different runs. Gives great training programmes too.

I started running a year ago and am doing Great South Run and Hellrunner down South (oh crikey) this year. Training going well but am upping distance slowly each week.

Next year I will no doubt be looking for some more races/runs that are longer/more difficult terrain but I love Winter training and hate Summer training (too hot even early morning) so I find it hard to be consistent with training.
