Question about exercise and how long before you see weight loss

I have been exercising very efficiently, and have approx trebled the amount I do. After one week: no weight loss. After 2 weeks: 3lbs lost.

DH says it takes time because your body has to excrete fat which has been used up, as CO2 and er poo.

I would have thought if that were so, you'd see results more quickly.

I don't know anything about the subject. Does it just take a couple of weeks or would you expect to have seen a small loss more quickly?

To see any significant change in your body you need to wait 12 weeks.
that is how long it takes for your body to adjust.

not sure of the science behind it, am sure someone will be along soon

you can not lose signficant amounts of weight via exercise alone - you do not excrete fat - your body burns it up when not enough calories are taken in ... it would appear that weight loss is 80% diet and 20% exercise.. I found this out the hard way after working out 3 times a week with a PT and not losing any weight - did tone up and change shape though! so make sure your diet is good and keep up exercise and you should see changes within a month - I did!

As zzmum says, you need to be eating about 1200 calories a day and each training session burning as near to 500 calories as you can. This way you will lose weight. You will see a difference in body shape in about 3 mths as said before.

yes my PT told me that too, that to lose weight it is 70% diet and 30% exercise.

I have changed my diet, hmm only in the past week though.
Interesting. Thanks.
How much do your PTs cost?

I noticed after about 10 weeks, and tbh- it wasn't on the scales that I noticed (they remained stagnant for a while). My whole body shape changed and I actually had a real waistline.

Now i realise its more about 'toning up' not just shedding the pounds

Apparently there is truth in the theory that you will gain muscle through exercising, so may not see significant weight loss, tho thinner. I thought this was bit of a myth, but doc volunteered this!
