Brexit

To think this could mean the end of brexit?

Now MPs will be able to block it. Could this be the end of this ridiculous brexit? MPs can not vote for something that they think will not be in peoples interest and its very clear the people that voted to brexit would be the ones worse off.

JO'B is doing a fab job on LBC today and most brexiters seem to be happy that it might not go ahead as they were fooled by lies!

MP's will not vote against what their constituents voted for (majority), this will definitely delay Brexit but I think leaving the EU is inevitable.

All we can hope for is that MP's may tag some conditions on to the bill such as require access to the single market for example. This would at least be the less "nuclear" option.

Remain voter btw

Perhaps the MPs will vote the same way as the electorate, and deliver a meagre 37% vote to leave.

There is no way that MPs will block it. No way at all.

Why is brexit ridiculous? MP's should vote for what the people asked them to and why is it clear that the people who voted for brexit would be the ones worse off? Who said most brexiters are happy it might not go ahead?

Where are you getting your information from? Is any of it confirmed or proven? No it isnt. It cant possibly be because we havent left yet!

Remain voter, trying not to get my hopes up and also feeling a bit trepidatious as to how the country as a whole would respond if brexit was blocked.

There are strong views both ways, I wonder how many leave voters regret their vote and what impact this might have?

Much too soon to say. Not worth considering any of this until after the Supreme Court verdict. I'd assume it's still happening (though I'd rather it didn't) but if you're involved in relevant planning for a business, can see how things would be more tentative.

When will we know the result of the Supreme Court ruling? I am a staunch remainer but yes would worry about a Brexit block - it is all bloody chaotic isn't it? Fascinating though!

There will, quite rightly, be uproar if MP's decide to block Brexit. The referendum result stands, it is legal (no matter how much people may not like it) and if MP's block it, they will effectively be telling the public that they don't care what the public want. They just can't do it.

Yes this exactly!

MP's will not vote against what their constituents voted for (majority),

But the leave vote was not done by consistency, would it still be a leave if it was? All it needs is a few MPs to vote differently than their consistency to overturn it IMO.

I'm trying not to get too excited, but finally its some good news in a dark dark year!

Let's bloody hope so ... however if not, the good news is that the pound has soared today since this news.
I'm off to buy my holiday money.

JO'B... LBC...????

London things, perchance? As were the claimants... Pimlico plumber???

The farce continues... UK democracy is being flayed alive...

I think unfortunately the cat is out of the bag now when it comes to Brexit, if MP's voted against leaving the EU it would cause uproar. I have no idea what this would look like but I imagine it may be similar to the riots in London etc a few years ago.

No

I am hoping it might influence how we leave the EU

So many MPs have been out of touch with those that have voted for them far too many are more interested in promoting themselves let's see if they are really willing to put their jobs in the line I doubt many are

I can't listen to JO'B show anymore would rather listen to answers and and questions on both sides of the argument but thats LBC presenters that inform their callers they are wrong if they disagree with them.

I don't know anyone who voted to leave who regrets their vote and neither have I seen this online I am not sure if we have another referendum the outcome would swing to remain

The vote was done by a NATION. It doesnt matter which constituency had the highest votes for Leave or Remain.

Why are you excited? Why is it good news? Does it not matter that it mocks our democratic right to vote as individuals, as we choose?

'Perchance'?

I'm just glad we're having a reminder that this is a parliamentary democracy, and that Theresa May can't run it as a dictatorship.
While I don't think that the majority of MPs would outright block Brexit, this will hopefully water down the Hard Brexit nonsense into something a little more sane and palatable.

OurBlanche · 03/11/2016 12:10

Yes! Perchance?

I have never heard of them... have no idea who/what. I am asking, as I have assumed that they are London centric things. Things the vast majority of the UK has no knowledge of!

That and I quite like the word. It has a nice mouth feel.... try it Smile

Or Tatertots are you proposing a conspiracy theory. That there is no 'chance' involved? That this is another DM set up and all the ensuing caterwauling will be paraded upon their grimy pages, paper and digital? Grin

I think it is pretty disgusting that it is being sent back to the MPs to be honest. Both sides votd and numbers that were said by both sides as well as the consequences were plucked from neverland...

Hopefully it won't be.

LBC is no indication as London voted to remain.

LBC now stands for "Leading Britain's Conversation" and is supposedly no longer London-centric. James O'Brien talks the most sense of all of their broadcasters.

I think it would cause a civil war, not going to happen OP.
I don't mind either way tbh, politicians are never on the side of us mere inferior mortals Grin
However, there would be a complete uproar if they voted against what their constituents wanted.
