Brexit

Backtracking Boris caught out as liar.

So there you are all those who voted Leave. Boris is backtracking as he bumbles away as usual talking about free movement and trade. So what was voted for? Now, apparently and horrifically, he is on the verge of being prime minister. Once more people seem completely unaware of his devious, manipulative, self seeking, personality. He was useless as Mayor, now, just when we need someone who will work their socks off for this Country and really know what to do to get us out of an ever growing mess, there is a strong possibility that he will get what he aimed for at the expense of the well being of Britain. Shame, shame, shame.

Why are you singling Boris out? Every bloody one of them is a liar, and not just regarding the Brexit/fiasco.
Never trust a politician, ever.

Agree, the whole thing has been a bloody shambles. Yet everyone's on here, blaming each other for voting the way they did, but no ones pointing the blame where it should be. It's such a shame. We should use this decision as a chance to change the whole useless system.

He's been sacked twice for lying so I don't know why anyone would think he would tell the truth now.

Surprise, surprise.

Boris is intellectually bright and can even speak a bit of Latin but otherwise an empty vessel.

Some people like a bit of entertainment and charisma in their politicians and Boris has this in spades. But otherwise he is a self serving, narcissistic creep and I shudder to think of him being the next PM but it's probably most likely to be him unfortunately.

God help us.

For the life of me I can't see why there hasn't been more of a backlash from the Leave voters who have been conned.

Johnson's Telegraph piece today was a far cry from his preaching last week, and this morning he said the pound and the markets were stable.

When will people wake up and realise they are being continually lied to.

They're not even difficult to unravel lies- he's saying one thing and the opposite is happening.

Was he useless as Mayor? (serious question) Because the image that was portrayed was that he was relatively well liked (out here in the shires anyway).

Not that it would be surprising if the image was different to reality Wink

We could really do with a government of national unity IMO.

It's not just Boris, not by a long chalk. What about Cameron, banning the civil service from even thinking about what might happen...(and of course calling the blooming referendum in the first place).

The margin is so so narrow. I voted remain, but if I had voted for a change (eg joining the Euro, changing over to drive on the right kind of thing) and the 'mandate' was only 52:48 I think I would feel uncomfortable. It puzzles me to see a vote of eg 60:40 described as 'overwhelming', (as in, some regions voted 'overwhelmingly' one way or another on this kind of margin). I really don't think it is. 70 to 30 maybe. But 52:48 is hardly 'the people have spoken.

Nonetheless, if that was the prospectus Cameron offered, then trying to back out of it would cause so much anger .. Unless, just possibly, it brought with it an incredibly convincing and concerted campaign to better the lives of a big majority of out voters. But I am not sure its is feasible, it would be terribly dangerous I think, much though I would love not to leave. I accept there were slightly more who want not to stay (be interesting to know how many are regrexiters of course...but I don't think we'll ever know that)

I accept the status quo has to change. But I believe a lot of vote leavers were voting for jobs, housing and public services. I believe they we must be given what we were promised. I suspect this may be harder outside the EU, but if so, so be it. It still has to be done. It had to be done anyway.

He should be impeached for his recklessness and lies. He has actually broken a country on the back of his career machinations.

I suspect there is such a lot of dirt on Boris that will all come out during his leadership campaign, gleefully revealed by all those who have been storing it up for just this very eventuality.

People who voted leave were voting to leave the EU. That was the only question on the ballot paper. I wish people would stop trying to infer that we vote for xxx or against xxx.

Secondly, I am not angry at Boris. I didn't vote for Boris or because of Boris. Actually I am glad he is showing himself up- hopefully the Conservative party will pull themselves together and choose a sensible (leave-backing) leader to sensibly lead us out of Europe and re-Unite us as a welcoming, independent country.

"Leave voters" aren't a single entity of thick poor people. Some of us don't need our lives "bettered".

I'm a Londoner and no Boris was not seen as an effective mayor. It was clear from the get go that he was using the job as a springboard to better things. Everything he 'accomplished' from 'Boris' bikes, to the Olympics, was actually started by his predecessor Ken Livingstone.

The only thing he really seemed to work hard at was selling luxury flats off to foreign investors. He started projects that he couldn't be arsed to finish and his deputy had to do most of his work which is why he found time to be a part time MP of another constituency and write two regular newspaper columns on top of playing at mayor.

The fact that he was so ineffectual led to Zac Goldsmith being decimated earlier this year. Nobody could stomach another entitled old Etonian who was only interested in the wealthiest people in the city and who would advocate using public money for private ventures like Garden bridges on a part of the Thames with more than enough bridges when there are children living in almost Victorian levels of poverty up the road.

People who voted leave were voting to leave the EU.

Of course a lot of people were. Judging by interviews I have seen etc however, there are a portion who voted that way for other reasons. Globalisation is difficult to accept if your communities are suffering in any case.... for this it is successive governments that have been to blame and not the EU IMO.

IMO no one on either side was actually informed enough to be handed this decision.

Why do you think most Londoners voted to remain because they were all aware that Boris is full of bullshit and changes the story to suit Boris.
He was not a good London Mayor.

Fuck off with the Referendum posts in AIBU

It's the biggest thing to happen in most of our lifetimes- people are going to post about it.

It's better than threads started by people pretending to be cats/ dogs/ toddlers which happily stand in AIBU.

During the Andrew Marr Show(25th March 2013), Mr Johnson was pressed over whether he had lied to Conservative leader Michael Howard about allegations of an affair in 2004 - which resulted in his resignation as shadow arts minister - as well as claims he had been sacked from the Times during the late 1980s.
Insisting that he was talking about "integrity", Mr Mair turned to a 1990 telephone conversation Mr Johnson had had with one of his friends, Darius Guppy, who had been demanding the private address of a News of the World journalist.
A recording of the call suggested Mr Johnson had agreed to supply the details, even though Guppy, who was later jailed for fraud, had indicated he had wanted to have the reporter, who had been investigating his affairs, beaten up.
Mr Johnson stressed that "nothing eventuated" from the conversation, adding: "If any of us had our phone conversations bugged people say all sorts of fantastical things whilst talking to their friends."
Mr Mair asked: "You are a nasty bit of work, aren't you

Would much prefer referendum post in AIBU than the usual drivel. If you're missing it grab a take a break or put loose women on.

No one is suggesting that the vote was for or against Boris or anyone else but it was for or against what they said in their campaign and much of that is now being backtracked on.

I appreciate that not all Leavers voted based on this, therefore they weren't conned, but certainly some did.

There is a referendum section for this, that is why you are being told to fuck off.
You haven't justified your allegation titled in this thread.
Boris was an excellent mayor...he brought in London living wage.
