Brexit

To be apppalled by the remain camp attitude

On my FB feed, social media, TV we are being berated for voting leave, we are being called racist, thick, uneducated, stupid, poor, peasants, benefit scroungers...the list goes on. There is even an petition now to have another referendum because obviously the leave camp know absolutely nothing.

Boris Johnson was whisked away by the police when he left his house this morning as protesters were ranting at him, banging on his car. How is this democracy? why does it only run one way? Yet you cheer at this act of aggression.

I would understand if the vote was closer but it was not close, leave won by well over a million votes. Why cant you accept the results and look for a way forward together, why have a "me vs them" attitude.

"Democracy is fine, as long is it's my choice that wins" seems to be the mindset of alot of people nowadays, same happened in the General Election. I'm expecting some form of disruption to some city centres tomorrow as people gather to proclaim that; voting is fine, as long as you vote the same as them.

Why start this thread when there is another, identical one near the top of the page that's six pages long??

okay - but do we really need THREE threads saying the same thing?

The percentage of the majority was something like 3-4%.

It's not a camp.

Your Facebook friends do not necessarily represent all of the views of all remain voters.

Maybe you ought to have a word with your friends.

Boris Johnson is a prize, opportunistic twat. That does mean that all remain voters support aggression anymore than all brexit voters are represented by the vile cretins at Britain First.

Does that help?

As a percentage, a million votes is tiny. It's incredibly close and nothing good will ever come of this because nearly half the country will be deeply unhappy the whole way through the next few years of negotiations. They should have stipulated that a minimum 60% majority was required for any decision to be valid.

And you're complaining about "thick" comments? Hmm

Do you know what?
I'm not doing any of that.

I'm sitting here reading people being gleeful about how the (insert racist term) are all getting booted out. How Nige is such a geezer and should be PM.

Just wishing voters would actually make an informed choice.

Remain camp have proven how small minded they really are. They hate the working class we are all uneducated benefit scrounging peasants to them.if they had there way we would of been denied a vote as we are not educated enough to them. I'm proud to vote leave, proud to of won and that our voice has finally been heard
All you remain, stop chucking your toys out of the pram, stop withe the nasty comments and accept the decision like a grown up

I'm a carer on income support.
I don't hate working class people, why would I?

I'm not sorry I've lost. I'm sorry to be leaving the EU. I'm sorry that the voice of racism, small mindedness and short-term thinking has won in my (previously) lovely country. You can say YOU are not racist or small-minded but you have voted with a group of people who are.

And not one person has given a good, practical long-term reason for leaving.

So go ahead and be appalled. I'm appalled at the result.

Unfortunately it is democracy. 51% of the country voted to leave. Half of the country are going to be incredibly unhappy and they have every right to express that.

OP, you do realise you have gone against the brains of London/Oxford/Cambridge combined?? You have seen £ loosing its value by how much so far? Can you answer that? Do you know how much has that wiped off from UK economy by now?
If you can answer these, I have sympathy for you. Otherwise I reserve the right to call Leave voters twats and ignorant idiots who didn't know how not to cut their own nose and all that. What a massive own goal eh?

I don't believe for one second that a leave vote will be better for the working class.

Don't
Be
Ridiculous

Who is a champion of the working class amongst the leave group? None of them come from such a background and none have a clue.

The Remain camp are small minded??????

If you believe that's the case and not the exact opposite I literally cannot think of a thing to say.

Enjoy your small minded ignorant xenophobic right wing clusterfuck of a future.

I'm working class, grew up on one of the worst council estates in yorkshire, granddaughter of a miner and daughter of a steel worker. I voted remain.

I'm disgusted at some of the comments I've read today, apparently I'm some middle class toff who wants the peasants to be kept in cages and never let out. It goes both ways, I don't believe all Brexit supporters are racist idiots and it should be just as unacceptable to tar all remain supporters with the same brush

MrsChrisPratt · 24/06/2016 14:10

100% agree.

Incredibly hypocritical coming from the left wing who pride themselves on being non-judgemental and accepting. I've seen comments denigrating the 'geriatrics and council estates' '51% of the country are racist bigots' and other such distasteful stuff. People have voted this way because they don't feel listened to or represented. Not listening to them again and trying to shut down views by calling them racist and stupid just perpetuates the problem.

And I voted remain!

Report
KidLorneRoll · 24/06/2016 14:10

The vote was not a sodding football match where the result doesn't matter and the red team will play the blue time again next year.

This is people's future. The future of their kids. Do you honestly expect that all the concerns people had, all the reasons why people voted to stay in the EU would just evaporate?

No, is the answer. I accept that the majority have voted but that doesn't mean I am not shocked and extraordinarily worried about the result.

To think that suddenly everyone would just go "oh, alright then, let's just plunge into the abyss with no real plan based on a campaign fought on lies and insults" is somewhat naive.

The town I live in (MC, prosperous) voted remain (as did I FWIW)

There are utter twats posting on fb that they are ashamed to be British but proud to come from our town. Err no you are fucking lucky.

Because the vote is just the beginning, not the end. Now we have to deal with the consequences of this stupidity. The reason services are underfunded in the UK at the moment is because we have a Tory govt which ideologically believes in cutting back to the bare bones, not because of less than 2% of our GDP going to Europe. But now we have been voted out, on the back of an anti-immigration agenda, when EU immigrants aren't our problem in the first place as net-contributors, and we'll have to keep them anyway if we want to have any of the benefits of trade with the EU anyway.

The biggest losers will be the working classes as we lose the protection of the EU when it comes to employment rights etc.

20 years worth of EU contributions have been shaved off our economy since last night.

And you want us to just shut up and forget about it? Really?

kidlorne no-one is saying you can't be shocked and worried, I am myself. I just find it ironic that many of the people ramming acceptance and tolerance down others throats for the last week are now being ageist, classiest and complaining about the IQ of those who haven't agreed with them Hmm
