Anyone putting any plans in place in case we leave?

I've just checked the EU referendum current polls and it's looking very close at the moment.

I wondered if anyone is putting plans on hold, or will change any plans they have if we leave?

Personally, I am wracking my brains to think of anything which will directly affect me. Although I wonder if there will economical turmoil and whether to plan for an interest rate rise (our very high mortgage). Which will in turn affect Dhs business.

If we remain, I'd imagine it's just business as usual.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Got British citizenship. Been living here since late 80s when I came to go to university (specialist subject not taught the same in my birth country). I don't have anywhere or anything to 'go back' to. My qualifications would not be recognised.

MyHouse so a Brexit wouldnt adversely affect you, in that you will definitely be able to stay, which is what you have always wanted to do as you have no plans at all to return to your original country?

I hadn't thought about people putting things on hold until I read on another thread that they had, or the companies they worked for had, but I can't remember what people were saying and I couldn't find the thread again!

My husbands business is already suffering, it's as quiet as it was leading up to the last recession. We are very worried about the economy. Unfortunately we just have to save our pennies and hope we will be ok.

No idea at the moment whether in/out will be for the best for his business but I think I know how I will vote regardless

We are living carefully and saving as best we can as DH's job would be at serious risk if we left the EU. The whole of our town would be badly hit as the company is a major employer and the other major employer is the airport so I can imagine that would be hit too.

I would, but have no idea what plans to put in place. DH is not a British citizen (although he is EU citizen) but so far, no one has been able to establish what will happen to EU citiziens who live here if exit happens. I know it is unlikely to change in the short term, but what happens to things like his pension / entitlement to health services. He has lived her for many years, paying NI and tax etc, so would be entitled to a state pension here (has only ever worked here rather than his home country) but not sure what will happen to this if we exit the EU.

I'm concerned that he will have to apply for spousal visa, but he is the higher earner by several times over, and my salary isn't high enough to meet the spousal visa requirements.

It's a big worry.

Sorry to hear that chelle , would his business immediately pick up if we remain do you think? Would people have the confidence to go ahead with what he makes/provides from 24th June?

I imagine EU citizens who are settled residents here will end up in the same situation as one of my BILs, who is proudly Australian and has never claimed UK citizenship although he's been married to a British woman and living and working here for nearly twenty years. He has to spend a merry morning at the Australian High Commission in London once every few years doing paperwork, something to do with visas and renewing passports I think. Otherwise his life goes on completely as normal.

Free and Fanny the Irish passport thing, is that to travel freely throughout EU on an Irish passport rather than actually moving to Ireland? Would that be a dual British one?

DH and I are British citizens now, but work in a sector that would be significantly damaged by any restriction on the movement of skilled migrants.

If the UK leaves the EU, we would consider moving elsewhere.

DH is now in possession of an Irish passport as well as his British one, and we will be applying for Irish passports for the DC too. DH's job would be in jeopardy if he was no longer an EU citizen. But if the UK leaves the EU, I wonder how long Ireland would remain in.

sixinabed - I'm not aware of any particular dissatisfaction with the EU in Ireland but I'd just be worried that, as such a big trading partner with Britain, if we left then they might consider leaving too. Would there be issues with customs/borders? Maybe not, I really don't know. It all just seems so unclear at the moment, I would like my children to remain European citizens if there's a Brexit so hope that Ireland does stay in.

Thanks - yes, she was born and raised in Co. Kildare, so definitely Irish.
