Eco cleaning

I've been searching and searching for a thread from a few weeks ago about ecologicial cleaning solutions. I've been out and got the borax and distilled vinegar, but now have no idea what to do with them! Anyone around and prepared to repeat their tips?

Where did you get your borax btw?

Got the borax in Boots - very reasonable it was too (suspect pensioner-pricing!).

I put essential oils in the surface cleanser, BUT you don't have to.

It's a Kim & Aggie recipe and folks, it really works!

Tea tree. I buy it by the 50mL bottle.

I use it in the kitchen, on highchairs, to clean the fridge, etc.

In the bathroom I use Dr. Bronner's liquid peppermint soap exclusively. You can get it in the UK, but it's dear.

My parents bring it to me from the US when they come across.

how very odd.. i only searched it out for myself this morning and cut and pasted it

here it is (thanks expat)

"here's the recipe i use for surface cleanser.

500mL water
2 tablespoons lemon juice
.5 teaspoon of washing up liquid
1 tablespoon bicarb of soda
1 teaspoon borax
a few drops of your fav essential oil

Put in a spray bottle, shake well and apply to any hard surface - except wood."

i've just got a book in called 'better basics for the home' from annie berthold-bond and people, it is worth its weight in gold if you're looking for environmentally-friendly, non-toxic cleansing!

Please remember that some of the inredients are toxic (borax for example). Just because they are seen as eco friendly, does;t neccessarily mean they are 'safe'

no, and nowhere does she claim they aren't, just that some people tend to react more to chemicals in some commercial cleansers. this author suffered from lyme disease that left her ultra-sensitive to a lot of things.
