How can I be sure my TV is not on standby?

Really silly question, I know. But it's surprisingly hard to be sure I have found the off button!

I am using the off button on my remote. A red light stays on on the TV set itself.

The only way to make sure its completely off is to unplug it.

Turn it off at the wall.

What make/model is it? You should be able to find the manual online?

Turn it off at the plug, if you can see a light on, its using electricity

That means it is on standby. When it is completely switched off there should be no lights on at all. I always use the off button on the TV, not the handset.

We just got a new second hand tv and it's got no off button. Crap design (why can't I find the cross face on my phone?)

Are you sure? What make is it?

You can buy a small gadget to put between the socket and the TV
https://energenie4u.co.uk/index.php/catalogue/product/STANDBY-SAVER-1 which will automatically switch the TV off completely a few seconds after you have used the remore to switch it to standby.

My TV goes onto standby whether I use the button on the TV or the remote.

However there is an extra switch on the back which turns it off completely.
