I'm looking for a job at the moment but struggling to find two suitable references. I sent an email to the line manager in my last job (I've been studying for the past year) only to find that the company is in liquidation. I'm friends on Facebook with an old colleague who is friends with the line manager.

My old line manager will now be employed by another company. Can I still contact her via Facebook to ask for a reference?

I don't see why not, if that's the easiest way to get hold of her.

You could just add the statement 'references available on request' at the bottom of your CV instead of giving full details until you can confirm with your referees that they are happy to speak up for you.

HTH.

Thanks for the response. I've just been putting 'available on request' on forms so far, but I'm applying for a job which specified named references.

I think I'd definitely try to get hold of her on facebook ASAP if that's the quickest way of contact then.

All the best with the job hunt.
