Made redundant at 9 weeks pregnant - help?

Hi Ladies,

I am wondering if anyone can help me? I have just been told I am getting made redundant ? this would be bad enough on its own but to make matters a lot worse I am currently 9.5 weeks pregnant.

I had not told my employers I was pg (was waiting until after my scan) so they are justified in their decision but I was wondering if anyone could advise me on my entitlements? I?m really worried about how this will affect me financially as I had a good job with a good maternity package ? of course now I won?t get that.

Thanks in advance,

Katie xxx

Oooh, goodness.

I assume you don't have concerns about the redundancy consultation process or anything like that?

How long is your notice period? If it's very long you might be able to get to the magic 25 weeks to qualify for SMP.

You may be eligible for maternity allowance. See here. It's a bit like SMP, but without the 90% of pay for six weeks bit at the beginning.

Other than that, is there a redundancy package?

Thank you ribena berry - i think they are within their rights to make me redundent, they seem to be doing it by the book.

I'm not sure what sort of package i will be offered but i hope they will give me more than the minimum in light of my situation. Thats good to know about MA - hopefully i won't be left with nothing.

I am on two months notice so won't make it to 25 weeks sadly.

How long have you worked there katiecubs? How much redundancy pay you are entitled to depends on that. I know you are hoping they will give you a bit more, but if you can work out how much you are actually entitled to you have a useful starting point.

Thanks Numpty and Flowery.

I have been there 3 years full time so looking at the maternity allowance it seems i will qualify - can anyone confirm i have read it right?

Work have actually said they will give me around 4 months full pay which is more than they need to so am very relived about that - seems i should be okay after all (at least for a while)

Yes you will be entitled to MA, so that plus a decent redundancy package means things shouldn't be too bad.

Thanks flowery! Yes not nearly as bad as it could have been - much less worried now
