Hi all, today I got a letter from the job centre that says the following;

DEAR MISS NORDEN,
WE ARE WRITING TO TELL YOU THAT JOBSEEKERS ALLOWANCE CAN COUNT AS TAXABLE INCOME.

FOR THE PERIOD UP TO 22 MAY 2005 IN THE 2006 TAX YEAR WE PAID A TOTAL ALLOWANCE OF £133.51, OF WHICH £133.51 WAS TAXABLE. THIS IS ADDED TO ANY EARNINGS FOR THIS TAX YEAR.

IF YOU THINK THE AMOUNT OF TAXABLE ALLOWANCE IS WRONG, YOU SHOULD WRITE TO THE OFFICE GIVING YOUR REASONS WITHIN 60 DAYS.

YOU WILL RECEIVE FORM P45. IF U ARE STARTING WORK GIVE IT TO YOUR NEW EMPLOYER IMMEDIATELY.

KEEP THIS LETTER TO HELP YOU FILL IN ANY FUTURE TAX RETURN.

YOURS SINCERLEY,

MR JOB CENTRE MAN

......what the hell does that mean? will I get paid £133.51 or do I owe it to them? Why can't they just put it simpler?!?! Its far too taxing for my pea of a brain!

Is it not saying that that was the total amount you got paid in 2005 and therefore if you fill out your own tax return you need to include that figure in 2006 tax return?

maybe lol...

I'm just no good understanding the wording of these letters.

So I don't owe them anything?

no, but does that sound right? How long have you been on JSA? would you have only received £133 in the whole of 04-05?
