This might sound really pathetic but i just dont know how to cope with the situation.

Im a duty manager quite new to the position and ive found the job role quite difficult at times but recently ive started to enjoy the role abit more and got more confident in my role.

Anyway the problem is everytime the manager is off and im in charge there are 2 members of staff who just moan all day. They moan about how things are done, about any new procedures and because they are both part time always comment that they are so lucky that they only have to work 2 or 3 days because the place is going downhill because alot of staff have left.

I know it sounds stupid but it gets me down, i hate people moaning and im starting to take it abit personally now because they always moan to me and never the manager. They are both really friendly to the manager.

Anyone know how to deal with the situation?

Next time they start moaning tell them to go away and write a plan for how they think they can improve things and do things better.

This may or may not work, but its worth a try. Each and every single time one of them moans, turn to her/him with a concerned look and say " Is everything ok, it's not like you to complain about things, you are usually so positive"

You will need to say it deadpan, but apparently saying this will make them think that actually they are positive and they don't complain.

Failing that and again you will need to say it every single time " Thats an interesting point about xyz procedure you need to raise that with the manager" Eventually they will realise that this is the response you give every time they moan so they should give up.
