I don't know if anyone will be able to help but DH has a problem at work and it's really getting him down

He's worked for a shop (not a chain) for over a year and recently found out that a collegue who started a few months back is being paid 50p more per hour than him despite them doing the exact same job (DH has actually been a key holder and has forklift experience, so is more experienced).

He asked the woman boss about this last week and she said DH must have got it wrong and seen his tax code or something . She has since lied to DH saying this lad is on the same pay as him (DH saw this weeks wage slip to & it still says £6.50 p/h) and also had a major go at the lad about discussing wages (he wasn't to know!) and told him to tell DH he is on £6.

DH is really gutted at the way they are lying and basically treating him like shit.

I've tried googling equal pay etc.. but all I can find is women V men. Is there anything he can do other than find a different job?

The only specific rights to equal pay are for women and men doing same or equivalent work.

Other than that, it's basically up to the employer, and would only be illegal if it was discrimination of some kind or if someone wasn't being paid minimum wage.

He can still put in a grievance if he wants to but unless there's illegal discrimination it's not going any further than that I'm afraid.

Bugger - thanks very much for replying anyway Flowery . I think he's pretty much decided to look for another job anyway, he feels so crap about the whole thing
