Hate my boss! How can I not let him get up my nose so I'm forced to leave?

I'm a Police Woman. I ranted before Christmas about my boss. The hours are good for childcare, I do my job well and my public appreciate my attention to them. The supervisors are okay and let me get on with work and are understanding as they have childcare issues too.
What advice /tricks do people have to cope with their boss? Just to make being in the same room bearable. If I'm not careful he might have a grievance against me and he might be right. Because I'm very close to calling him a prat and sticking my two fingers at him for no good reason.

WHat's the problem with him?

He is very ambitious He is very good at attending meetings and setting up 'projects' and dressing smartly. He has just been turned down for the next rank. He just hasn't got any face to face communication skills. I could rant all night about his problems but it not going to help me. I just need to know how people get on with the job and work around their boss so they don't get the sack?

Hi What!
I am in the same line of work as you, unfortunately the higher ranks seem to attract this type of person ( male)
Lots of deep breaths?
Wait for him to move on?
Does he work in the same room as you? Take it he is the Insp?

Love, yes, you've guessed it. He's applying for various C.I jobs but, failed the last one. So I just need to wait it out. He has the room next to us and the printer is in our room but, he doesn't even say good morning to me. I always miss the opportunity to say it to him as 1, I'm working and haven't noticed him come in and then see him walk out 2, I don't want him to notice me so I forget to say it to him unless I'm face to face. he just loves projects so he can put them down on his CV.

Yes, but I like (I know this sounds odd) serving the public. he come out of a meeting last year to tell me about an arrest and various other incidents in my school without bothering to find out that I was the arresting officer and all the other info came from me.

My bos has never done my role as a PC, so has no idea what I do, but instead gives me lots of irrelevant tasks today that are completely outside of our remit.
