It's recommended that they are updated every 24 months, although very soon you will be able to have one that you can take from job to job and that will be updated automatically. At least, that was the talk very recently at a meeting I was at.

I am just asking, because employer (am a part time relief worker) ask for renewal after 24 month, but Uni, where I study for an Ot degree told us out crb's with them will be valid for the 3 years....

but I suppose my employer hasn't mixed it up then...thanks!

They are valid for three years but you have to get a new one each time you change employer. Your employer can request for them to be repeated every year though.

They are only a snapshop that is 'valid' on the day it they are issued.

I have come across places that say one year.

It's not a big deal to get renewed surely?

You can't do a CRB on your own. It has to come from your employer/agency/educational institute/voluntary organisation.

If you need it, they have to organise it. If it is an employer, they should pay. In the voluntary sector, the fees are waived. If a particularly stingey organisation does it for you, you may have to cough up - but it is only about £35.
