Hypothetical at the moment.

I qualified as a nurse in Sept and went straight into ITU (my dream job ) anyway I havent enjoyed it, have found the staff unfriendly, feel like I have had little support, and the work extremely draining. In 3 months Ive had 2 weeks off sick (once with a stomach bug and this last week with flu) which I think is due to me being run down. I find the shifts hard (equal 12 hours days and nights a month, including equal no. of weekends). I have weeks where I'll have days off in the week when dh and dcs at school work and then end up working nights all weekend, sleeping and working with ds saying things like 'are you sleeping again mummy'

I will admit its getting easier, I have made some good friend who started my ITU course with me and a few others who have been there a while. I am finding it easier to 'hold my own' and I do believe its survival of the fittest there (out of 10 that started with me, 4 have left already).

So to get to the point I have been asked to apply for a job in a department where I did my management placement (3 months), its 10 or 12 hour shifts but they are in the week with weekends and nights every 10-12 weeks.
The career progression is probably the same but I cant help but feel it wont look as good on my CV even though its similar work.

I think Im answering my own question but would you go to a job you would find more boring and less challenging than the one you were in if it gave you a greater work/family balance??

Yes, I would change jobs. I have requested to step down from a senior management position at work as although I love my job (rewarding, demanding, stimulating etc) I have no work life balance which I need.

I think you have answered your own question and the fact that you are thinking about work when you're not there is telling. FWIW none of can forsee the future and might not even have a job!

I think youre right. Its just that everyone who works there tells me it takes a good 12 months to settle in, but I just dont know if I want to be this stressed all the time, and have my children wondering why Im sleeping all the time. I know eaxctly where I want my career to end up and its in neither of these areas and neither area is relevant so I guess it doesnt matter where I am for now.

My tutor said I should give it a year, and Im worried I will be very bored in new job, there is a lot of waiting around
