Any one any good at writting risk assessments?

Just need some pointers on how to write one please.

Is there a logical way to sytematically approach it so that all bases are covered?

The basics (from an H&S point of view) are

Consider the task/change

The persons affected by it
The risks posed by the task
Describe the hazard - how much of a risk is the hazard - i.e. the severity of the hazard (cut finger or electrocution?) multiplied by the likelihood of it happening. Get a score - can you reduce the score by putting control measures into place? (by reducing either the severity or likelihood) Look to use non-person controls first - i.e. changes which avoid the hazard in the fisrt place, locked equipment etc, and end with Information, instruction, training and supervision..There, that's it!

Oh, don;t forget the individual concerned too - do thay have special requirements (health probs, etc) or are they a young persons (16-18) or a pg or nursing mother.

Look at the HSE website. They give advice plus examples of risk assessments for various workplaces. You should find something helpful there.
