HR communication re return to work

sorry if this is in the wrong thread and I should know the answer but funnily my brain turned to mush after giving birth!

Does HR have to write to you before you go back to work to confirm your stated date of return, and if so, is it 1 month or 2 months before?
Have got it in my head that they're supposed to write to you 2 months before, but may be getting it confused with my having to give 2 month's notice of any change in the date.
Anyway, haven't heard from them and I'm due back on 6th Oct.

fitnforty when you notified your employer you were going on maternity leave you should have been written to by HR or whoever confirming your maternity leave arrangments including your end date. After that they don't need to write to you again reminding you of that date, it's up to you to notify your employer if you want to go back any earlier.

Are you in touch with your line manager? I would say that's probably more important than another letter from HR anyway. If you haven't heard from your manager a quick email or phone call might be a good idea to catch up and talk about your first day back rather than going back 'cold'.

Not sure: seem to recall that if you have told them that you are returnng to work, the assumption is that yuo will return after the Ordniary maternity leave is finished unless you tell them otherwsie (iether that yuo want to return earlier or that you want to take Addtional Amternity leave)

No, they don't have to write to you.

They can assume that you are returning after additional maternity leave so you need to tell them if you are going back after just ordinary or any date in between.

I haven't changed my return date since I originally notified them of it before I went on leave, but the HR letter just stated my start date. Line manager knows ok, can't wait for me to get back!
Thanks for the replies, will drop her a line anyway.

Might be worth just dropping her a line anyway - and confriming that your slary will re-start!

When I went back to wrok, no-one bothered telling our salaries dept, so after a full months work, I got one day's worth of SMP

To be fair, I did get the rest a day later after I rang them!
