part time work in my field - what will it mean?

Am currently FT wohm, and recently suffered severe burnout (hospitalised with viral meningitis and septicaemia brought on by exhaustion). Have just returned to work and they're planning to put me on 4 business trips to Germany next week, then another two the week after. Basically, I need to get out of here, I could've died of the meningitis and I don't want to end up in that state again.

I can't afford to be FT sahm, but don't really know much about PT work. I know that there is some PT work available in my industry. But for the PT workers out there could you possibly tell me?

  • Do you end up just as exhausted basically doing a FT job in PT hours, which I know a lot of people find themselves doing?
  • have you ever been promoted while PT
  • if you go back PT to FT have you taken a step down career ladder, or are you still on the same rung as if you'd stayed FT do you think?

I'm main breadwinner atm in our family, so it's a big decision. Would be so grateful for any experience/insights you guys can give

I suspect the answers to these questions depend a lot on what industry you're in.

I work in media but in quite a specialised area. There are quite a few PT workers at my company and in the industry in general at my level but not as many as FT.
