Work

Am I right or what?

I reluctantly laid off two staff as work was low.

It was in their contract and I gave them 4 weeks notice, plus a fab reference (IMO)

I found out today (last week they are here) that one of them has given my remaining 2 members of staff a list of jobs (highlighted) for them to apply for, so she can have their jobs

I chose the people for being laid off as last in first out - but I was about to talk to this person about their work as I thought there were problems

I am so angry that this has happened & I have explained to the staff remaining that I value and respect their work, and whilst I can do nothing about it I would prefer that they stay working for me?

I am really angry (I think I said that already) - but what this person did was wrong...wasn't it?

Fortunatly my staff were offended by it

Agree with little lapin.

Often in investment companies when the team leader leaves the whole team will follow.

One of them is accusing them of harrassment

I am seriously considering not giving her the reference I had ready

If she gets a job they can ring me directly & I can give the basics only

SnapD didn't do anything beyond the bare legal requirement, so I'm not sure that she has any right to expect anything in return.
Obviously I don't know the details of your business, but a firm that downsizes some staff often then drops more.

DC - the bare legal minimum doesn't allow for me running the business at a loss for 3 months hoping for it to pick up again - which the staff were all aware of

Neither does it consider the anguish of deciding what to do then doing it

I understand that she wishes it wasn't her - but I don't think it is polite to say to the others - "I want the job more than you - so you can go & get another job & I'll have your job"

She has said to me she would do anything to keep her job - now I know what "anything" is - she is less likely than ever to be kept on (although financially that isn't an issue atm - it might have been in a couple of months)
