Professional indemnity insurance

Hi,

I have recently become self-employed after leaving my employer, and am doing environmental consultancy type work. I have read that I need to take out professional indemnity insurance & was wondering if anyone has any recommended insurers for this type of insurance? Any tips would be much appreciated (very new to this game!), thank you.

Dh is self-employed and has this type of insurance cover. He is a chartered civil engineer and loss adjuster. He gets his insurance through the Institute of Civil engineers as they get favourable discounted rates for the premiums. He says that if you don't have a similar thing in your profession, then contact an insurance broker who should be able to track down the best deal for you.

Any good broker will advise you. Most indemnity insurances are similar. Its all down to cost of the policy in the end.

Thank you- I am going to get a broker to start looking into this, but will also look into professional bodies, I belong to one which doesn't give chartered status so doens't help with insurance etc. but there are few others out there which may be worth belonging to. Thanks for the advice
