Get out of the care sector

Help I feel so stuck

A million years ago I used to be a nurse but left due to moving around a lot with my husbands job. Last year I went back into employment (8 year break) working as a carer which I loved but the hours were just awful and I was constantly exhausted.

Applied for and got a more senior position with a different company. Have only been there a month and hate it. New job was meant to be Monday-Friday 9-5 only but I'm having to work extra to cover for staff shortages. So I'm back to long hours often at very short/no notice.

I want to get out of the care sector all together but have no idea what I want to or could make a decent living as. I dream of teaching meditation or opening a holistic well being type place. Then again I also fantasise about working as a secretary 9-5. I'm completely confused and lacking confidence about what to do next.

I would happily return to study as long as it was for a relatively short period of time. Any ideas?

Would you be better off in the NHS? Perhaps work part-time and retrain as a holistic therapist.

A 9 to 5 role as a secretary is a bit of a fantasy. Have been a PA myself for a long time and it is bloody hard work with plenty of overtime, demanding rude bosses and colleagues who think your main job is to make the tea and type a few letters. If only......

Perhaps try a nursing agency until you decide which direction you want to take or whilst you're studying?

The work is flexible and you can turn down any shifts you don't want or need.

I was on the agency for around ten years and I loved it.

I want to get out of the care sector too, it just isn't working for me anymore. I'm trying to tailor my cv with transferable skills but not having much response from the job sites like monster etc, the only people ringing me are from the care sector! Not sure what the next step is really.

You could do office hours as a clinical note sorter / coder in a GP practice? I know a few nurses that do this and the hours are flexible.
