I've seen a vacancy I intend to apply for

advertised with two recruitment agencies. One agency is small and looks to only have two offices. The other is a national name with a specialist division in the sector. Would you apply for the same post via both agencies or choose only one? And if so which one? What impact could it have on my chances?

Whichever one gives you the sense that they would 'sell' you really well to the client, to make them get you in for an interview. To be honest my experience of large recruitment chains have not been good - their recruiters don't really understand technical skills/requirements for a role and send completely unqualified candidates through. Just my experience. I don't think it would hurt to go through both agencies.

If you can apply for the job directly for the company they wouldn't have to pay a finders fee for you to the recruitment company. So if it was a tie breaker between you, who applied directly, and another candidate from an agency that might swing the balance in your favour. Does the vacancy tell you the company name so you can see whether you can apply directly?

Thanks. I've failed to find out the company name so far but might have another root about the internet. Neither advertisement gives much away.
