Work

Should I stay or should I go?

My partner and I are moving 100 miles away owing to my partner being relocated following a promotion. It’s come at quite a good time, I don’t enjoy my current job and was already looking for a new one; I’ve been looking for a job near the new place but haven’t secured anything yet (doing ok though, having applied to 6 and getting interviews for 5! So something must click eventually).

This week we’re moving out of our current flat (where contract is ending anyway) and into the new place. This means that my partner will live in the new place, whilst I stay with friends near my current work.

Should I follow my head – be sensible, keep working and staying with friends until I find a permanent job over there?

Or

Should I follow my heart - quit my job and hope I find something within my 6 week notice period or soon after?

Any advice from someone who might have been in this situation before would be hugely appreciated! Often age affects answers… I’m 25, looking for office work, and my partner and I have been together for 3 years, no children or dependents.

Can you afford to live on your partners' salary if you don't find work for some time?
