Has anyone used CV writers and been successful?
My husband is trying to change careers but barely getting any call backs. It is really getting him down and in turn driving me crazy!
Can anyone recommend one please?

Hi ShoppingBasket, this is something I might be able to help with, I have sent you a PM. Thanks!

I work as a CV writer, OP, mainly for myself these days. My two cents:

Avoid the larger "mill" companies (CVnow etc). Quality of writers varies enormously and very few writers are specialists in a particular field or industry. You may pay a premium for someone who doesn't know a whole lot.

Go by personal recommendation if you can, or look for a "one person shop" who will likely be happier to work with you husband by phone or email until he's absolutely happy with the finished product. A lot of the larger places will charge extra for phone calls and additional contact, even though it can be crucial to producing a good document.

To get the most out of it, your husband needs to clearly explain what kind of roles he's applying for, and ideally send on a few sample job descriptions for the writer to understand.

If you PM me I can send you the name of a good generalist writer I went through training with, based in London. (I specialise in the legal industry, so likely less helpful to you.)

Thank you guys, he is a good writer himself but I'm not sure whether it's CV or we are targeting completely the wrong job. I'm hoping transferable skills are accepted these days.
