Work

Tough day at the office

My husband and I worked in the same place and today is the first working day where it has hit home for everyone he is no longer working here.
He was the Prod Manager who was 'the go-to man', on call 24/7 and expected to know and do the vast majority of work.
He left a forwarding email address, and didn't leave a mobile contact. I was asked this morning for his number and I made it clear I am unable to give it out and reminded this manager of the email address to use. This did not go down well so he left pretty abruptly from my office. My own manager then came to me an hour later to ask me to verify which number he has for my husband would be correct, and I advised him that if he needs to be contacted there is his email address.
It's my husband's first day in his new job, and I cannot list all the reasons he decided to change where he works, but nonetheless he has made that move. Unfortunately he was so heavily relied on here that they see no issue with contacting him for help within 24hrs of him not being here!
Personally I am finding it quite a lonely place to be. At best there are approx. a dozen people on site at any one time so it's a quiet place anyway, and I have received a number of pep talks on what DH needs to do now with his new job (he's 31, I'm sure he'll be just fine!!), and I am sure there will be a few more over the coming week or so, but it is quite tough being here.
Can I hope that this will pass and the atmosphere will improve?
I only work 6hrs a day so am thankful I arrive after everyone else, and leave before them each day. Silver lining [hmmm]

Just say that his new job has a strict policy on personal mobile phone use.

Or just reverse the situation by asking what your company would think if a new employee of theirs would be contacted by their old employer for support during working hours.
