New job pregnant start tomorrow

Hi all, I'm 9 weeks pregnant and start work tomorrow for a new job. (9-5 classic office job) (Should say I've posted this elsewhere too, is that allowed?)

I was offered this job 10/11 weeks ago before I knew/before I was pregnant, but now I am seeing as it took so bloody long with paperwork ect to start the job.

I'm suffering with morning sickness and think I may have to run to the toilets a few times a day blush

Thing is, do I tell them I'm pregnant? 'Oh hi, it's my first day, by the way, I'm pregnant!' confused It could look really bad, and I didn't want to tell anybody until I'm 12 weeks.

I don't think I can be let go because I'm pregnant? I will sign my job contract tomorrow. Shall I wait to sign and then say?

Tricky!

I've known two women in a similar position and they chose to tell their manager at their first 121 meeting once theyd started. I know they both felt though that their new manager would be supportive and it wouldn't impact on anything in a negative way. They both acknowledged it was a bit awkward.

These things happen!

I would sign your contract and then either wait for your first formal supervisory meeting with your manager or until after your scan. Whichever you feel is best for you

Personally I would wait until after 12 weeks but I've had MMCs so am very paranoid.

Congrats on the new job and pregnancy!

Thank you very much, I think I'll sign the contract and hold out as far as I can, especially as this week is training and I'm with my manager next week :)

Good luck! You don't have to tell them until 25 weeks.

You may want to check the maternity policy soon though as you prob won't get the company maternity benefits if there are any. So you might want to save a bit more

You will of course get statutory.

Not sure what pp means by statutory, but OP won't qualify for SMP. Possibly maternity allowance though. I agree company benefits are unlikely.

OP I was in a similar position, though only 5 weeks gone when I started, so had a couple of weeks before the nausea kicked in. Then it was Christmas, so I had a few days out of the workplace then too, and had been there nearly a month before I had to be in work whilst obviously symptomatic. I too held out as long as I could! In my case, 10.5 weeks. Fortunately for me, that was the week I completed enough qualifying weeks for maternity allowance, so I knew worst case scenario there'd still be maternity pay.
