I got a letter today from my employer asking that I attend a formal consultation where I will be informed of proposed changes to the structure of the company and the implications this will have on my role. Does this mean redundancy? It seems odd that they recently took on someone else who is doing a job I could have done.

There's no way for us to tell you whether it's redundancy. Restructurings do often involve some employees being at risk of redundancy/being made redundant, but not always. It may mean your role changes in focus or in terms of tasks/reporting line or something. All you can do is go to the meeting and find out what's happening and how your role is affected.

Sorry; I didn't thank you for the reply. It was notice of redundancy; but I was offered 8 hours. That's not really much good to me but I put forward a proposal for 16 which was I believe constructive and in both our best interest. It's a different role though to what my contract states. I've been there two and a half years; and my hours are reduced by 11 if I accept this? Can I argue redundancy on those lost hours and untaken holiday? I KNOW I am lucky to still have a job; but I am going to have to pay my childminder even though I lost these hours? Any help appreciated.
