You are entitled to working tax credits if you work 16 hours or over.

Unfortunately, many part time jobs are pitched at 14 hours (2 days), meaning you miss out on WTC.

However, if you don't get WTC, you may be entitled to council tax benefit, free school dinners, free milk, etc.

this is a useful site.

Ooh, don't know about that.

That site will allow you to put all sorts of scenarios in (it takes you through it) so that you can see exactly what your income will be in any given situation. You can go back and change the childcare costs, number of hours worked, etc., to work out how different situations will pan out. It's really helpful.
