law or just recomendations????? It says that part time employees who aren't contracted work on days when are bank holidays should be given days in lieu (I think this is what they mean) My employers are a large insurance company and say that it is my choice not to work a monday so i miss most bank holidays and it's just tough pooh pooh (just a bit more politely)

No, afaik you should get them (pro rata as you're part time).

I think it's not a very clear issue. I believe you're entitled to minimum 20 working days holiday a year if you're full time and that can include bank holidays if an employer wants to be mean but your contract might give you more.

Perhaps it comes back to your contract - does it say how many days paid holiday you get a year?

Mmmm, part-time is a bugger.

I do work Mondays and my office is open some of the day on a BH; I get double time for the hours I work, but also have to take leave for the hours we close early - 3 hours each BH, which takes 15 hours out of my allocation which I resent bitterly (I work 20 hrs per week, and my total annual hol hours are 112, so that's quite a big chunk of non-negotiable hol)

Oh, plus Boxing Day and New Year's Day last Christmas (our leave year starts the last weekend in December), and Christmas Day and New Year's Day this year - that's another 16 hours - no wonder I've only had 2 weeks proper holiday this year!
