Little incentive to do a good job?

Could you pls tell me what you think about this case?

I'm a departmental head at at finance company.

Recently our CEO created a new position in charge of four departments, including mine. The person chosen for this position is the CEO's nephew, which led to talks of nepotism.

After three months, I'm not the only one who feel resentment about the way our jobs are assessed. If the performance of one department goes down, then the head would be criticized. That is fair enough, if only that head is recognized for the department's good performance. Instead, the new person (CEO's nephew) would be credited for every good performance, while he is spared if something goes wrong.

This creates little incentive for me and other people. We think we would have to keep trying hard without any proper recognition. Any good thing would only help that person's career.

If it were you, what will you do?
Thank you

To be honest? Look for another job.

It looks as though the firm lacks transparency, you aren't trusting the CEO in his decision making - is there a board who also have oversight of senior appointments?

Isn't this how most businesses operate? It might not be the CEO's nephew but it is always usually someone who is favoured. I've had the pleasure of working with some shockingly bad and lazy directors in my time. Having studied some of them I can only presume they got the job by networking and being in the right place at the right time. Loads of people underneath them are very often unrecognised and far better value IMO.

It's not how most businesses operate. I agree, look for a job in a grown up well run company
