Advice for dh made redundant today

goshme · 08/08/2006 20:50

Hi
My dh was made redundant today, he has only been with the firm for 10 weeks & was made redundant on the basis that the Company can no longer afford him. He was employed as a General Manager which was a new position for the firm. He has been given one months pay & a good reference.

Can they do this to him? Surely they should have worked out whether or not they could have afforded him before taking him on!

Any advice gratefully receieved.

Yes, it is quite legal. It does not sound as if dh could claim it was related to pregnancy... that is about the only grounds for a claim when you have less than a year's service.

Yes, legal I'm afraid. Much sympathy though, my dh was made redundant on Monday.

It seems so unfair doesn't it? Thanks for your replies, ProfYaffle - my sympathy to you as well!

Oh goshme, I'm sorry, it's git when this happens isn't it? LASt time this happens, I was 38 weeks pg. It was apparently because he was a cat person. Like, wot-eva

The thing is,, this is a pain and it may cause temporary problems true (don't know you so i'm not aware of your situation) but look to the long term. This may well lead to a job that your Dh adores and may yet be the ticket to the happiest time yet for your family.

It's a chronic shame that they would take someone on without costing first, surely anyone can do that, it's basic respect?

Sending your family lots of love
