Work

To go for this new job or not?

I have worked for my organisation for 5 years, mainly in a middle management position, and have been part time since returning from leave.

My manager has announced she is leaving in the new year, which will leave her position open.

I am so tempted. Opportunities like these don't come up often, and I have felt a bit stagnated recently, but I love working for my company. However I am 99% sure that they will not consider the role on a part time or job share basis. DD is only starting school in 2015. If this opportunity had come up next year, I wouldn't have a second thought about applying.

I am going backwards and forwards as to whether I should apply. On one hand, I feel I need a challenge and want a more strategic role (plus the salary is £20k more than my role on a full time basis!!). On the other hand, will I miss out on DD growing up.

Of course they may not want me anyway.....

Go for it. They might not go for it job share/part time, they might not go for you.

But if you don't give it a shot, you'll always be wondering, "what if?"

Go for it - grab the opportunity. You might have to start ft but once you are settled in, you could see if it could be done part time and apply for flex working.

Thank you both. Think I'll give it a shot :)
