We had redundancies recently and it's unsettled everyone. Some folks got instant promo from associate director to director which annoyed me - especially as one girl who is an absolute cow who no one wanted to report to got this instant promo. I stayed at the same level and when I approached it with my boss, she said I'd have to be patient as there were no place for me to goin the current structure (we also have a 'director' in the US but he's useless so makes the whole thing a bit galling as I'd like to be promoted). Anyway, the foresaid nasty bit of work has handed in her notice. I have an interview for an associate directors job on Wednesday at another company. I think this is going to be a good test to see if I can get a promotion out of this or whether it was just lip, service from my boss. There's another guy who is at the same level as me and I can imagine he'd like to be promoted as well. I do like my company, workplace and colleagues. It is just the lack of promotional opportunities which had made me look, for other jobs - but how do I approach this. I must admit my performance has slipped a bit due to these redundancies and with the expectation I'd take on loads of staff and other responsibilities with no increase in pay or promotion....but I am generally a high performer at work. The head do dept told me about the resignation on Friday and told me to get my thinking cap on as this is going to,stretch the dept,. We had one other resignation and 2 girls going to be on mat leave soon! Do you hink I should approach the subject of promotion? I am the person with most line reports other than head of dept!
