Within in role at work I am the employees HR contact. I have HR to consult but would really like to start studying myself but don't know where to start!

Is CIPD the main source for study? Can anyone recommend some reading material that I can use from home?

All help welcome Smile

Yes, the Cipd is the place to start as it is the hr professional body.

A lady who reports to me is starting her course in September. The programme has changed since I did it, but she told me that you need to study at level 7 to eventually be able to get chartered cipd status. She is studying level 5 this year and level 7 next year (hopefully). Level 5 is equivalent to degree level.
