Work

Do I stay or do I go now!?

Hi there,
I have only been in my current company and role just over 6 months, and am having doubts about my decision. The work itself is different and interesting for the most part so that's the good news and will definately be a plus on my cv. My issue is with the company culture. Having always previously worked for big corporates I always expected moving to a med sized company was going to be different but the environment is stifling!

The management team have all been there a long time, and a couple of them, including my direct boss, are for want of a better word, 'bullies'. The way they speak to and deal with people is so damn aggressive and unnecessary!
Thus far, I have escaped relatively unscathed but I am guessing that's just because I'm a bit on an unknown commodity still!

Whenever these 'managers' are in the vicinity I find myself on edge and watching what I say. If I am honest I am also starting to dread individual meetings with my boss as I never know whether Jekyll or Hyde will be waiting
for me! It just seems such an demotivating working environment, that I know I can't change, I just can't decide if the 'work' itself is worth the sacrifice of my emotional sanity?!
I also feel physically ill at the thought of handing my notice in, as it will go down v v badly...

I do sympathise but in this economic climate I'd be cautious about leaving without another job to go to - why not start looking and hand your notice in when you find something else?

It really depends on how much you have to lose.

Don't underestimate the long-term effect on your morale though, if things deteriorate for you there. I think you need to have an escape route, even if you don't plan to immediately use it! Whether you decide to leave without another job to go to depends on many factors such as how easy it would be to get another job in your industry, your financial situation at home, or whether you plan to do something completely different.

It sounds as though it has the potential to become difficult, and it can be horrible to be on edge like that and not feel supported. I have been in a similar situation and it can drain your confidence. Good luck!

I'm going through the same at work. Bosses are being unpleasant about training and childcare issues. I've got to the point its making me feel drained. I'm trying to find a new job but there's so many out there who are also looking. I won't quit until I find a new one.

Thank you for the replies. After going over and over it I think the crux of it is the long term morale impact, and how that will affect me..so on the job hunt tomorrow..just got to get out before my notice period changes to 3 months in May! I am in the South east so hopeful it won't take too long !
xKatx sorry you are going through something similar, when they make everything difficult it is like a constant battle isn't it, hope you have luck finding something soon.
