Can someone please explain my payslip to me?

About 18 months ago work overpaid me by about £500. It was realised the same day and I asked them to take the money out my bank account. They said they couldn't and that they'd have to not pay me as much next month.

I pulled a bit of a face so they said they'd take it back a bit at a time over a period of months. They said I'd get some odd extra payslips in the mean time but to ignore them, something to do with sorting out the tax. As I'd paid too much tax or something due to this £500.

I'm still occassionally getting the odd funny payslip.

There is nothing in the pay and allowances column. In the deduction colum it says PAYE 32.00R.

In total deductions it says -32.

In Net Pay it says £32.

Are they paying me? I'm confused by the fact it says Net Pay £32, but its only in the deductions column and in that column it has a R by it.

I need to find out my online banking password really and check my statements which I never do. But am suddenly having a panic that they're paying me money they shouldn't be. Am too scared to ring them.

That looks like a tax rebate on the £500 you were overpaid.

Sounds odd. After 18 months it shouldn't be having any effect as you will be in a new tax year anyway. To be honest, I don't understand why there was ever any need for funny payslips. It should have been simple enough to resolve.

I'm going to have to ring them up aren't I? I'm really worried that they're going to say I owe then 1k or something. Bugger.

I've never really noticed the £500 been repaid. Unless these sums of £30 are little repayments. But then I'm puzzled why it says £30 in the net pay box. That seems like more money to me. Plus they said they'd take it back over 5 months and its way past that now.

payslip is the portable document format of the description of your salary breakup. It shows the components of the cost to your employer, which includes the basic pay, House rent allowance, Travelling allowance and daily allowances if any.

Viva = are you NHS? I am asking this because when I worked bank on NHS they made a complete mess of my pay and I ended up getting mini payslips. I think the system they used was Mccaffrey or something like that and it would not let them do loads of things they wanted to do.

If you are not NHS just ignore me. But phone payroll and find out what they are doing with you.

Aged knees, yes I'm Nhs. Still haven't plucked up the courage to ring. I'm scared I owe them money.
